Social Activities
2001-2002
Main Action of the Club
Rehabilitating and sponsoring the primary school El Bustan, Road Essaltania, Sfax.

     Since September, 1999, the Club has been engaged in the action of rehabilitating and sponsoring the primary school El Bustan owing to its substructure and equipment.
Since then, a major work costing over 35,000 dinars has been accomplished:

- Replacing three classroom roofs
- Arranging an administrative and cultural block

- Constructing and repairing sanitary blocks for girls, boys and school-teachers

- Fitting-up an infirmary

- Whitewashing the school and Equipping it with electricity, woodwork

- Whitewashing classroom and painting boards and desks

 

- Paving the courtyard and fitting-up three flower vats
 

 

 

- Making gifts of scholastic supplies to needy pupils and rewarding the bright ones
- Establishing and equipping a data processing club

 
1.2 - Medical Activities:
    
Health caravans: with the cooperation of the Tunisian Red Crescent and the scouts, health caravans and ophthalmic medical visits have been organized in these places: Sidi Abdelkefi, Oued Elgarawa, Bir Mallouli and Douz.
1420 patients, 83 of whom are pupils of Road Agareb school, have benefited form these actions.

Cataract Operations: 9 old needy persons detected by the medical staff have undergone cataract operations freely with the cooperation of Ennajda clinic, the scouts and the Tunisian Red Crescent.

Training course: In rescue in favour of 9 young people from Chaffar with the collaboration of the Tunisian Red Crescent.
1.3 - Gifts
    
Delivery of 250 kgs of diapers to the Errafik association (abandoned chidren). This was in October, 8th, 2001, to celebrate the world Day lionism with the cooperation of Diwan Leo Club.
    

Gifts to Algerian Homeless :  Sfax Thyna lions club has participated in fund collection to buy gifts for the algerian homeless and has sent them from Sfax.
       For the second consecutive year, the Sfax Thyna Lions Club sponsors the participation of a Tunisian student in the Lions Summer University in France.
 

Gift of 8 T.V sets : the club has set up 8 T.V sets, a video and an internal circuit in the patients rooms of (Hematology) department in Hedy Chaker Hospital.

    

Equipment for the Douz Maternity :  In June, 2002, Sfax Thyna Lions Club received the medical equipment donated by Roissy Lions club in France.
These equipments, which are worth 104 thousand dinars, have been sent to the maternity department in Douz.
Both clubs have asked the S.A.I. for a grant of 10 thousand dollars to buy the remaining equipment.

1.4 - Leisure and cultural activities :
 
  • Plays.
  • Female musical afternoons.
  • Visiting Kerkena isles for relaxation.
  • Visiting the sahara for relaxatio
                     
     Competition in painting : To mark the International Day of the environment, the club organized a competition in painting in Kerkena. The participants were : 22 basic school pupils, 38 secondary school pupils and 17 women taking courses for adults. The best works received prizes from the Global Environmental Fund.
               

1.5 - efficient:
    
  • creation of Kerkena branch of Sfax Thyna lions club
  • delivery of the charter, badges and diplomas to the Kebili Douz lions'club.
  • receipt of the pennant " light the way for the youth."
